Did you see the SHOGUN series on Disney+?
Many people around the world are amazed by the performances of Japanese actors, such as Sanada Hiroyuki and others.

Toranaga in the SHOGUN series was inspired by the real Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. And what does that have to do with our homestay blog? Here is what it is...

When you come to Tamba Sasayama, you will probably see the Sasayama castle ruins, or at least the sign of it. The Sasayama castle was built in 1609 by the order of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Shogun of Japan. He and his descendants, the Shoguns, kept peace in Japan for 265 years.

Many of the characters in SHOGUN series were based on real people from Japanese history. For example:
Taiko ⇒ Toyotomi Hideyoshi (who built Osaka castle)
Ishido ⇒ Ishida Mitsunari (who was loyal to the Toyotomi clan and tried to turn people against Tokugawa)
Mariko ⇒ Hosokawa Galacia (who was a dedicated Christian and the daughter of Akechi Mitsuhide, who had significant involvement in this area)
Toda Hiromatsu ⇒ Hosokawa Fujitaka (who was very loyal to Tokugawa Ieyasu)
Toda Hirokatsu/Buntaro ⇒ Hosokawa Tadaoki (who is known as a Christian Daimyo in the Osaka area)
Lady Ochiba ⇒ Lady Yodo (who gave birth to Taiko's son and lived in Osaka)

See? We are living in a very interesting town here.

If you come to Tamba Sasayama, all that drama will become more real because the town's structure hasn't changed much since the 1600s. Many buildings and temples from that era are still here.

Maybe you can enjoy this city from a historical perspective.
