Sasayama Hina Matsuri

15/03/2024

As I posted on Events section, you can see Hina doll displays in the Sasayama castle town area.
The event started at the beginning of March and will end on 20th of March.
The weather has been very cold till today, and the temperature goes up and down quite a bit during this season.

We arrived at the area around 1:30pm, and started to walk around in Kawaramachi.  In the middle of the  Kawaramachi area, there is a Houou Kaikan, which literal meaning is the phoenix hall. The building used to be a bank about 100 years ago.

We enjoyed making the wreath so much that we didn't realize the time! But it was well worth the time. We really enjoyed this project.
When you come to homestay at our house, I can show you how to make it!

By the time we finished making the wreath, it was already almost the closing time for different facilities. So we went straight to the other venue, To-To-An. There, we had some Matcha and the special sweets called "Hikichigiri", which is supposed to be popular in Kansai but I never heard of it. Therefore, the sweets was a very special treat for me too!

There are many sets of Hina dolls displayed at To-To-An. The oldest one was from 570 years ago.
As you may know, Hina dolls are the model of Emperor and Empress' wedding. Therefore the dolls are wearing very fancy kimonos and special headset for the Emperor and Empress. Because the headset is made so intricate, and it's from such a long time ago, you can't even wipe it otherwise all the little pieces will fall off!

After we enjoyed looking at different sets of Hina dolls, it was time to go for us.
It was such a nice outing, with a small souvenir of handmade wreath, and nice bowl of Matcha and special sweets.
I am so happy! 🥰

The dolls are displayed until 20th of March, so if you are coming around to this area, have a nice walk and take a look at those beautiful Hina dolls🎎
