A Summer of Unforgettable Experiences
We spent 4 nights and 5 days creating memories that will last a lifetime. It was our first homestay experience as a family of three: my 11-year-old, 6-year-old daughters and myself.
My 11-year-old daughter was initially hesitant about staying at a stranger's house, but after seeing the kind personalities of the couple online, she decided to give it a try.
Our girls had been watching television and YouTube all the time during their summer break, so I wanted to find something that would spark a sense of wonder in my daughters. We had agreed beforehand that we would leave the screens behind and embrace new experiences.
As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with a world of fun that made them forget all about screens. We picked fresh tomatoes from the garden, touched freshly laid eggs, and enjoyed the most delicious French toast made with those fresh eggs and hand picked blackberries. This might be my favorite memory of the whole trip!
Every morning, my girls went to see the chickens, and whenever they had free time, John and Yoko played games with them. They even played games in English, and my 11-year-old daughter, who claims to be bad at English, was picking up new words without even realizing it!
We spent the mornings and early afternoons playing games, and in the afternoons, we went on adventures together. We experienced Tamba cotton weaving, pottery, enjoyed a delicious buffet, and had fun at the park. My daughters even requested we visit three different hot springs!
While traveling as a family of three, it's easy to end up with only pictures of the kids. But John and Yoko were always taking pictures and sending them to us, so we have a wonderful collection of memories.
On our way home, the girls couldn't stop talking about how much they wished they could stay longer and when they could come back. It was clear that John and Yoko had created a warm and welcoming environment for both the children and me.
On the last night, I had a long conversation with John and Yoko till midnight. They shared their parenting stories among the many topics we talked about, and it made me realize that becoming a perfect mother overnight is impossible. I understood that it takes time to connect with my children and grow together as parents.
Thank you for giving us such a wonderful experience! We were so happy to meet you both and feel so much respect for you. It feels like we gained another set of parents! We can't wait to go back to that beautiful place and discover more magic together.
