When is the Sakura season?
The winter this year was relatively warmer than usual and we didn't have much snow at all.
Last week was so warm, as if spring had already arrived, but this week the temperature dropped down to winter levels, with less than 10β every day.
However, spring is definitely on its way! You can already spot some beautiful dark pink
plum flowers in bloom.
After the plum blossoms, the peach flowers will bloom in early March, and the Sakura season will arrive!
Determining the best time to come and see Sakura is very challenging.
According to the weather forecast, Sakura may start blooming around March 22 in Kyoto, March 24 in Kobe, so maybe towards the end of March in Tamba Sasayama????
Japan is a very interesting country. The blooming of Sakura is a significant event here, covered on news every day, and even displayed on specific charts on weather forecast websites. It happens uniquely to Sakura and no other flowers.
Sakura holds a very special place in the hearts of Japanese people.
It coincides with the start of the school year in April. I remember seeing huge Sakura trees in full bloom at every school, from kindergarten to college and universities too!
Here in Tamba Sasayama, you can see so many lines of Sakura trees along the riverside.
Near our house, there's a particular type of Sakura called Okame-zakura that blooms just before Somei Yoshino.
So if you are lucky, you will see a beautiful dark pink line alongside a pale pink line along the Oyama river.
