Himalayan Walts (Curry restaurant)
If you're looking for a restaurant in Tamba-Sasayama that serves authentic spicy curry, this is the place to go!
Run by a Japanese family who returned from Nepal, this curry shop offers curry made with locally sourced vegetables, carefully selected to create a curry that is gentle on the body. The spiciness of the curry can be chosen from five levels. It's uncompromisingly spicy!
The owner's family is warm and welcoming, creating a comforting atmosphere whenever you visit.

Okuei(Botan-nabe, or wild boar hot pot)
Botan-nabe is a Tamba Sasayama specialty in winter, from November to March. There are many restaurants that serve Botan-nabe, but I recommend this one because you can sit on a bench seat instead of having to sit on the cushion on the floor for a couple of hours!
The boar meat is not so oily as you think it is, and very lean and healthy, especially when you eat with fresh local vegetables.
The shop owner is very cheerful and friendly too!

Surakkan-Sasayama (Korean restaurant)
Kuromame-no-Yakata (Buffet restaurant)
Korean restaurant owned by a Korean chef. Reasonable price with good food! The chef is very friendly, fluent in English. The restaurant is rather small but has a nice atmosphere. If you prefer to sit at the table rather than tatami floor, reservation is recommended.

This facility contains a buffet restaurant, a souvenir shop, a cafe, and a farmer's market. At the buffet restaurant you can eat all kinds of Japanese local cuisine as much as you want for a certain amount of time with a very reasonable price. It is a very popular place among the locals, so you might have to wait for a while to get in. You can also buy souvenir, have Kuromame (black soybean) soft served icecream at a cafe, and local vegetables at the farmer's market.

Makoto (Coffee beans)
At this coffee shop, you can drink coffee with a Tamba-yaki coffee cup of your choice, from the owner's collection displayed on the shelf. (The cups are not for sale.)
You can also experience roasting coffee beans.
The owner is quite knowledgeable about coffee beans, is very friendly, and can speak English. So after some stroll in the castle town, you can have some coffee break at his shop.
Phoning before you go is recommended.
